Two (2) Groups of Community Volunteer Counselors Established in two (2) Bomas of Nyalath Payam and Maper Payams of Aweil Center County on 7th September 2022.
On 7th of September 2022, Community Initiative for Partnership and Development (CIPAD) with financial and technical support from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Sweden has conducted 1-day awareness meeting for the establishment of 2 groups of community volunteer counsellors in Apada Boma of Nyalath Payam and Maper Boma of Maper Payam in Aweil Centre County attended by 40 participants (19 women and 21 men) who were invited from different groups of chiefs, women, youths, local authorities, people with disabilities, religious leaders, and members of peace committees. This activity was implemented in response to limited community psychosocial support services in the two communities’ due to trauma related to different forms of violence that use to happen in the communities. During the meeting, participants acknowledged prevalence of trauma in the communities with negative impact. All participants welcomed the formation of the community volunteer groups and promised to work with the group in the support of trauma and gender based violence survivors in their respective Bomas.
As the results of the meeting, 2 community groups of volunteer counsellors were established each in Apada Boma of Nyalath Payam and Maper Boma of Maper Payam readily prepared for training on their role in providing psychosocial support services in their respective communities.
