CIPAD Successfully Organised 6 Community Consultative Meetings on Local Conflict Issues Supported by UNDP, June 2018
With support from United Nations Development Program (UNDP), CIPAD has successfully organised six (6) community consultation meetings on conflict issues in three former counties of Aweil East particularly with Malualkon and Agurping communities, Aweil South with Malelalell and Wathmuok (Buoncuai) communities and Aweil Center with Nyalath and Maper communities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal Region. The meetings brought together members of peace committees, youth and women groups as well representatives of local authorities. Most of the meetings were opened by Payam Administrators except two meetings of Aweil South which were opened by the County Commissioner, Hon. Garang Wek . These meetings have increased awareness on community conflict issues among women, youth and members of peace committees.
The issues prioritised by the communities included local border disputes, cattle thefts, disputes over farming lands, conflict over water points due to inadequate sources of clean drinking water, alcohol consumption promote domestic violence, gender norms and many others, the list is long. Without these meetings, most of these community members would haven never got a chance to participate in identifying their issues and prioritised them. Most of these participants thanked UNDP and SWEDEN for the tremendous support as well as CIPAD for organising the meetings successfully as planned. CIPAD also remains thankful to UNDP for the continued support. We also appreciate participants and local authorities for facilitating the successful completion of our activities as planned, we welcomed such continued cooperation in helping our communities to build local peace.
