Aweil South County Level Community Consultative and Advocacy Workshop for Developing a Local Policy on Seasonal Cattle Migration and Thefts was Successfully Conducted on 30th of April 2022.
In Aweil South County, Community Initiative for Partnership and Development (CIPAD) with financial and technical support from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’ and Sweden has successfully conducted Aweil South County Level community consultative and advocacy workshop for developing a local policy on seasonal cattle migration and thefts on 30th of April 2022. The event was attended by 20 (8 females).
The workshop aimed at enhancing ways of strengthening peaceful co-existence between pastoralist, farmers and host community through advocacy & development of local policy on cattle migration in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state.
During the workshop, participants invited from different institutions, groups and community validated problems identified during Payam level consultations together with recommendations. Participants confirmed issues identified that are connected with seasonal cattle migration, migration routes, migration periods/cycles, suggestion of solutions to migration problems, need for a local migration policy, and recommendations on how the cattle migration can be regulated.
At the end of the workshop, participant validated the information collected during Payam level community consultative and advocacy workshop on seasonal cattle migration and overwhelmingly agreed that the information collected should be put together to make a local policy for seasonal cattle migration in the state. Some of the participants suggested that there should be conducted a state level validation workshop in order to bring information collected from different Payams and Counties together and incorporated them as one document aimed at tackling issues around seasonal cattle migration and thefts in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.
